Occupational Therapy Yoga
LMDSS would like to welcome Alexis Gore to our team.
Alexis is a recent university graduate with her Bachelors of Kinesiology in a specialization of exercise science. Alexis has always been intrigued by promoting and improving an individual’s lifestyle, and will continue her education journey to pursue a Master of Occupational Therapy degree within the next few years. Growing up Alexis was fortunate enough to play at an elite level of soccer where she was also able to spend free time coaching young children in the community. Currently, Alexis works as an Occupational Therapist Assistant with children who have Autism. Alexis aims to pursue a career which can promote independence and improves one’s quality of life, despite barriers present.
Research has shown yoga to be an effective therapy and fitness routine for children who have Down syndrome. Yoga can strengthen the body, increase balance and flexibility, improve self-esteem, develop concentration and increase an individuals body awareness.
